March moves in with fresh air, longer light, and a creative reset across San Bernardino County. As winter fades and spring edges closer, the arts follow suit with energy that feels bright, experimental, and a little fearless. From pop up markets and open mics to community festivals, and hands-on workshops, this month is all about momentum and new growth. It is a season for trying something different, showing up for local artists, and planting ideas that will carry us through the rest of the year. Here is what is unfolding this March across the county!

Film Submissions Are Open Yucca Valley Film Festival

An Evening Of Deeply Resonant, Immersive Sound From Percussion Master Tatsuya Nakatani

This donation based event offers audiences the chance to directly support the artist while experiencing the boundary pushing work of Tatsuya Nakatani, an internationally active avant garde percussionist, composer, and sound artist. Performing and touring since the 1990s, Nakatani has released more than 80 recordings and presents over 150 concerts each year, with a primary focus on his solo performances and his large ensemble project, the Nakatani Gong Orchestra. Known for his deep involvement in new music, improvisation, and experimental sound, he also leads master classes and lectures at universities and conservatories worldwide. Originally from Japan and now based in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, Nakatani brings decades of global collaboration and sonic exploration to every performance.

Desert Nights on the BLVD

Desert Hot Springs comes alive twice a month with Desert Nights on the BLVD, a high energy outdoor series that turns the city’s main stretch into a full scale community celebration. Hosted in the heart of Desert Hot Springs, these bi monthly events feature two signature experiences: a live concert night showcasing local bands, emerging talent, and headlining artists across genres, and a DJ night where top selectors keep the crowd dancing under the stars. Beyond the music, guests can explore food trucks serving everything from gourmet tacos to sweet treats, sip responsibly in the beer garden hosted by Bar One, and shop a curated lineup of local vendors offering handmade goods and one of a kind finds. Designed to be welcoming for all ages, Desert Nights blends music, small business support, and family friendly activities into one vibrant monthly gathering that keeps the boulevard buzzing.

RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEINS-CINDERELLA

This 2013 Broadway version of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella offers a fresh, modern take on the classic fairytale while preserving the beloved music from the original 1957 television musical. The story follows Ella, a kind and spirited young woman who dreams of a better life beyond the cruelty of her stepmother and stepsisters. With help from her magical Fairy Godmother, she attends the royal ball and captures the heart of Prince Topher, who is searching for purpose as well as a bride. Unlike traditional versions, this adaptation gives Ella a more active role in shaping her future, highlighting her intelligence, compassion, and desire for justice. Featuring classic Rodgers and Hammerstein songs like “In My Own Little Corner” and “Ten Minutes Ago,” alongside new orchestrations and additional material, this Cinderella delivers charm, humor, and heart with a contemporary twist that speaks to today’s audiences.

Mountain Story Time

Winter nights in the San Bernardino Mountains get a magical upgrade with Fantasy Forest Nights, a glowing fairytale experience that is part of Winter Wonderland at Santa’s Village. Guests can skate under the stars at the mountain’s only ice rink from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a $25 ticket that includes complimentary skate rentals, access to Silver Bells Arena, entry to the illuminated Fantasy Forest trail and light show, and free parking. Ontario Art Book Fair
